Outreach

The Outreach Committee plans and delivers services from our congregation's doorsteps to the ends of the earth, as Christ would have us do. The Committee accomplishes this by meeting monthly or as needed to plan and organize service projects to support local agencies including Common Place, Food Pantry, Heart House, Maple Lawn, Boy Scouts, Heartline, Lifeline, Eureka College and others. The Committee also administers the Outreach budget and conducts special offerings for Disciples Mission Fund and other projects. Special offerings include Week of Compassion, Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving and Christmas, plus others on an as-needed basis. Carolyn Kroll and Audrey Krogmeier are this year's Outreach Committee Co-Chairs. If you have an interest in outreach and service to the community, consider joining this committee's efforts, Contact Audrey, Carolyn, or the Church office.

In the church office we receive regular updates from Week of Compassion. You can call the office to learn about the latest word from WOC. Through WOC, you and I are able to provide real help to our brothers and sisters at such devastating times of crisis. You can go to www.weekofcompassion.org for more information

Membership

Laura Siscoe is Chair of Membership

The Membership Committee has responsibility for fellowship and evangelization activities, and oversees congregational life. We do this by working at the following activities:
Stay alert to the needs of the church family.
Promote fellowship for the church family with occasional meals and gatherings.
Maintain the attendance book and keep nametags up to date.
Acknowledge the occasion of a death in the family of a church member.
Welcome visitors.
Assist the minister with meetings with prospective members.
Provide pamphlets carrying current information about the church.
Provide a follow up contact with new members and seek to learn their personal interests.
Oversee the compilation of the church directory.
Promote Eureka College relations.
Promote the public relations of the church with announcements in various local media outlets.

Property Committee

The Property committee is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the church building, its contents and grounds. Valued in excess of four million dollars, our church home incurs many of the same type of expenses that you are familiar with for your own home. We have insurance, utility bills, and supplies. We must keep our furnace running well and our office machines up to date. The floors must be kept clean and everything put in its place. From time to time we have major expenses, such as the sound system, the new Sanctuary ceiling and the new slate roof on the Education building. We have a loan on the roof job for which we pay interest. The Nursery has a new floor. We are planning a project to modernize the drainage system that carries water away from the 35 downspouts connected to our roof. Snow is removed in the winter, the grass is cut in the summer, and gutters are cleaned in the fall. Steve Colburn is Chair.

Walk to Emmaus

The next set of Walk to Emmaus Weekends is coming soon. The Men's Walk is October 29-31, 2009. The Women's Walk is November 12-14, 2009. This is a 72-hour, non-denominational spiritual renewal weekend - Thursday evening through Sunday evening. It is an experience that will change your life.

Robert and Diane Steffer started a fund here at our church to help pay for the $75.00 per person registration fee - covers meal, lodging, and materials. You must register in advance and have a sponsor. Please contact Marilyn or Bill Walter, Jim or Lauri Hinrichsen, Angie or Mike Johnson, Ann Shoemaker, Deanna or Kevin Kalmer, or Mike or Linda Hood. There are others in our church who have attended Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus weekends. If those people would like to be sponsors, please let the above listed people know.

Consider prayerfully taking part in a Walk to Emmaus weekend. Listen to God's nudging.
