UPDATE: Only 15 Eureka Sesquicentennial Books Remaining

EUREKA - Karen Fyke, (left) secretary of the Woodford County Historical Society and Brandon Bressner, publisher of the News Bulletin, examine the first copy of Eureka: Celebrating 150 Years, the official pictorial history of the Eureka 1859-2009 Sesquicentennial, as it comes out of the shipping carton. The books were inventoried and local distribution to those who pre-ordered them has begun. Those who asked for copies to be mailed will be receiving them in 4-7 days. Fyke anticipates only about 125 copies will be available for purchase (at $45.00 each) after delivery of 330 copies already purchased. The inventory has been dramatically reduced and only 12 or 15 copies remain. The Historical Society is open Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.

Abraham Lincoln Statue Project Successful!

The Woodford County Historical Society's Lincoln Statue Committee raised over $105,000.00 as of August 2009 to fully fund the statue project. The completed statue site was given to the Village of Metamora by the Society, in return for a promise of everlasting maintenance and care of the statues. It is now attracting tourists from around the world. Thank you for your assistance in this great undertaking! If you would like to make a donation to help restore the historic Metamora Courthouse porch and exterior, our current project, please make your check out to Woodford County Historical Society Statue Project, and mail to WCHS Statue Committee, P.O. Box 1072, Metamora, IL 61548. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Mr. Jean Myers, committee chairperson, at (309) 367-4470 or metcourt@mtco.com.

This publication is a complete reprint of the Prairie Farmer's directory of the farmers and breeders of Woodford County operating in 1917, with valuable information about each farm. The Directory gives a fully classified list of breeders of purebred livestock and poultry.

There is also a business directory, giving a list of all business homes in Woodford County. Valuable statistics and a wide variety general information needed for rural America in the early 20th Century is included.

One delightful feature is a list of all rural automobile and tractor owners in the County.

This reprint helps the researcher to locate property in atlases reprinted by the Society. It lists the Township and Section number of the property of the farmer/landowners, the acreage, whether the listed person owns or is a tenant on the property and indicates the date when the person became a resident of Woodford County. This makes finding your grandparents' farm a bit easier.

It is bound in brown library buckram and printed on acid free paper, with the title stamped on cover and spine in rich gold.

If you wish your copy to be shipped, please add $5.00 for shipping and handling
Copies may also be picked up at the Society's office.
